Studies is an archive of photographs and Polaroid images capturing the people Durina met in his day-to-day life in Berlin, including his friends and lovers. In contrast to his previous works, this series allowed his subjects to communicate their narratives independently, establishing a compelling dialogue between the depicted and the depicter. Notably, the series also accentuated a homoerotic perspective, reflecting the newfound embrace of artist’s own sexuality and identity. “In hindsight, as I look at these photographs, many evoke the sense of depression that pervaded my life during that period. Despite their portrayal of others, I perceive them almost as a collection of self-portraits.”
