Intrusive Thoughts is an object comprising a hand-embroidered jacket and metal elements. The title of the piece refers to another symptom associated with OCD – intrusive, unsolicited and often meaningless obsessive thoughts that can lead to deep depression in sufferers. Many experts argue that the power and intensity of these thoughts diminish when the sufferers stop being afraid of them and analyzing them. If they find the strength to come to terms with the thoughts and accept the uncertainty they feel, they gain control over them. In the early stages of his exploration and search for answers to his condition, Durina wrote down supportive comments from discussion forums, experiences of other sufferers, and advice from literature that helped him on his path to recovery. The Intrusive Thoughts jacket is adorned with these slogans and affirmations. The piece also encapsulates the contrast of the soft material and the sturdy metal construction that supports it. While the pose of this figure invites an embrace, the sharp spikes protruding from the sleeves pose a serious danger to the audience.
